Here is the link to the event......

The non-profit organization DREAM Project Foundation looks to extinguish human trafficking through community development and aid worldwide. My pal Erin Wessling, who is also the brains behind the benefist, volunteered with the organization at one of their project bases on the Myanmar/Thailand border in Sangklaburri, Thailand.  In The DREAM House there currently houses over 50 stateless children aging from 5-17, who are without a country or family to support them. Because they come for hillside tribes in the area, they are not recognized by either country, meaning they have no identity and no rights making them highly, highly susceptible to human trafficking.

They are threatened daily with abduction and being sold into slave labor.  The stories they told of their experiences are hard to comprehend especially considering their age. These are bright and talented young people, and I know with just a little help, they can achieve the things we have all been blessed with.

The Taste of Art event is an attempt to gain exposure and funding for their goals, and solidify grants to aid projects worldwide. In Thailand, land has been purchased for development of a new DREAM House facility, as well as for farming the land surrounding it.  We hope that when the community realizes that these people can produce and earn a living from the land, the public will cease lending a hand to human trafficking for money, thus eradicating the need for it in the area.

Please come out to The Taste of Art tonight and show your support/ get a taste of great food, wine and art in the process!!!!

Haberdashery Eco Fashion Supply Studio to Become Haberdashery Eco Apparel

Oh, what a long way we have come...

After three years in business, Haberdashery Eco Fashion Supply is going fully virtual, closing the brick and mortar location at 311 W Broughton Street Studio and moving their production operation to a new, underground location. The company, launched in July 2009 by owner/designer Ashley Newsome, has transitioned over the past few years from a sustainable fabric and findings retail store, to a custom apparel and tailoring studio, to finally creating a wholesale line which produces bi-annual seasonal collections of unique, eco-friendly and socially conscious women's sportswear. Haberdashery Eco is available locally at the Red Clover boutique in Savannah, Ga. You can find a list of other retailers on the website, www.habsav.com.
Fear not, fans. Just because the alterations and custom apparel offerings are no more does not mean that you can no longer get fabulous Haberdashery Eco merchandise, including clothing, accessories, fabrics, and more. Check our website for regularly updated, one of a kind merchandise, and also look to our blog posts on new and innovative ways to make fun, environmentally friendly fashion your own.  Stay tuned for an updated and more socially media friendly web push in the coming weeks with a new website url, an online store, more DIY blog posts, giveaways, trunk shows, workshops, events, and updates on stores where Haberdashery Eco is available!
We would like to thank Satchel, and the girls therein, for their support and kindness over the last few years. We have happily shared their space and creative energy, and are sad to leave them! Satchel is alive and expanding in their 311 W Broughton St retail store location, so stop in and see their new leather accessories for fall, available for custom order, ready to wear and now wholesale.

Additionally, Ashley would like to thank all Haberdashery clients, friends, family, and business partners for aiding in the growth of Haberdashery over the years. Without your support, this business could have never gotten off the ground.
"As I begin a new era, I am happy to say that looking back on all of our changes, trials, tribulations and successes over the years, I feel good and without regret about all things Haberdashery," says Ashley. "We are moving forward in a positive direction. Now that some of the hard knocks learning on how to run a small business are over, some real heartfelt design will be able to surface."

Haberdashery @ SEAM: Runway Show on Friday, June 1

As some of Savannah's hottest designer's put the finishing touches on daring designs, tomorrow night is shaping up to be one of the Hostess City's hottest nights of the year for fashion. Several months in the works, SEAM, or the Savannah Emerging Artists' Movement, will bring together local leaders and emerging talent in fashion, photography, music, technology, and design for a premiere runway show on Friday, June 1. (Recent story in the Savannah Morning News.)

Among the esteemed participants are Haberdashery colleagues and friends Mamie Ruth, Hannah Goff, Faith Thornburg, Brittany Short, Lindsey Johnston, Alexis Rebeca Turner for lexiebec, Elizabeth Knight, Meredith Sutton, Danielle Hughes Rose, and Christopher Hench

Also in the mix is Alex Good, a former student of Ashley Newsome, who learned to sew (with no prior experience) and design patters (flat pattern drafting, draping, finishing, all of it!) in 12 courses of 3 hours each lesson. We can't wait to see what she has in store! Should anyone have interest in pursuing a similar path, customizable sewing/fashion design courses are $30 an hour per student and are geared for all ages, groups, or individuals.

Of course, Haberdashery is once again pulling out all the stops to assemble a killer line. Here's a sneak peak...

Don't miss the next biggest fashion event in Savannah this Friday, June 1. The SEAM Runway Show takes place at Brockington Hall on 213 E. Hall Street starting with a reception at 6:30pm. Purchase your tickets in advance by visiting: http://seam.eventbrite.com/.

Haberdashery Celebrates Savannah Fashion Week!

Last week was a big week for Ashley Newsome and the entire team at Haberdashery. As 2012 Savannah Fashion Week (SFW) descended, the crew put the finishing touches on the new line and prepared for another main stage fashion event.

SFW kicked off on Monday, May 14th with a wide array of daily trunk shows, special displays, and DIY events, including Haberdashery's "I'm With the Band" event on Wednesday, May 16th. Haberdashery opened the studio to event-goers and fashionistas who enjoyed live music and beverages, caught a first glimpse of the 2012 spring/summer line, and made headbands from recycled material.

The following night, Thursday, May 17th was the Savannah Fashion Week main event - the annual fashion show that brings together designers and boutiques from all over town to show off their looks on the catwalk. The event took place at the historic Lucas Theater and included collections from BleuBelle, Cate Lyon Studio, Civvies, Custard, Fabrika, Fab'rik, Haberdashery, J. Paige, Red Clover, satchel, Trunk 13, and Zia. Hair and make-up were done by See Jane, Glow MedSpa & Beauty Boutique, Colorboxx, Salon della Vita, Greener Grass, Towne, Foil, Park West, JW, and 40 Volume.

Take a gander at some of our hottest looks - complimented by leather accessories by our beloved trendsetter-friends at satchel!

Friday and Saturday were equally a blur with Haberdashery appearing at the SEAM Pop-Up Show at ARC, and the SCAD Fashion Show. Mark your calendars for the SEAM Runway Show on Friday, June 1st, featuring designers Emily Bargeron (Mamie Ruth_, Hannah Goff, Faith Thornburg, Alex Good, Brittany Short, Lindsey Johnston, Alexis Turner (lexiebec), Elizabeth Knight, Meredith Sutton, Christopher Hench, and - of course - Ms. Ashley Newsome (Haberdashery).

Ashley Newsome Shines with HABERDASHERY ECO Line at Charleston Fashion Week

Wow, what an amazing week! The team at Haberdashery can't say enough about our experience at the 2012 Charleston Fashion Week. It was nothing less than a high-speed car chase beginning last Sunday and stretching through to the wee hours of the following Sunday morning. We're still basking in the afterglow of a successful week. But after countless hours on our feet (in heels no less), our footsies sure are glad it's over.

The highlights? We arrived in Charleston on Sunday, March 18 and fit our eight models in only one hour. That initial hour would pretty much prepare us for the pace of the week to come. On Monday, we continued to fit models in the morning and then retreated to our comfy and magnificent store space, ONE Boutique on King Street, where we would do our final alterations and preparations throughout the week. Tuesday marked opening night of Charleston Fashion Week and we were thrilled to support our Savannah friend, designer Emily Bargeron with Mamie Ruth. Fantastic line! Wednesday we put the finishing touches on our collection and again enjoyed taking in great night of fashion under the tent. After an already grueling week, Haberdashery owner and lead designer, and CFW Emerging Designer semifinalist Ashley Newsome took a day off to prepare mentally for the next evening's runway show (and enjoy some tastes of the city). Sadly, she missed seeing the Copper Penny collection, styled by another Savannah local and friend, Mitchell Hall.

Now for the ACTION - Friday! We started hardcore preparations at 4:30 pm. We arrived on the scene and began unpacking, organizing our line - including the clothes, shoes, and accessories - by line. After a little hiccup on account of overheating power outlets, we were able to steam and press all eight of our looks. Models arrived a little after 7:00 pm but we found ourselves down to the wire with three of our models walking in the show immediately preceding ours. Our team has never worked so fast in their lives - dressing each of the last three models in less than two minutes, as the hair and make-up crew diligently worked around us.

The show was more gorgeous than any of us anticipated. The models were divine and wore each look with poise, style, and grace. Designer Ashley Newsome did not walk away the night's winner but she walked away with a great deal of respect from the fashion world and the many attendees at the show. She also walked away with a great deal of pride and appreciation for the experience.

The week ended with Saturday's Bridal Show during the day, which featured designer Rachel Gordon, and the evening show that was highlighted by the Emerging Designer finalists. Congratulations to Savannahian and fellow SCAD graduate Hannah Goff for winning the Emerging Designer competition. Everyone celebrated that evening at the Charleston Aquarium.

SPECIAL THANKS goes out to Haberdashery intern Kaitlyn Machos. We sincerely couldn't have done it without her. She even gave up her Spring Break to come and support us. Also, endless thanks to Rachel Gordon and Sarah Poe of ONE Boutique for letting us borrow their space as basecamp/makeshift studio and for letting us use their fabulous merchandise as accessories in the show (pictured above).

Our debt of gratitude also extends to Meredith Sutton for her to-die-for, handmade, period-influenced jewelry and accessories (example pictured above), Dennis Burnett for his photography, and the lovely ladies at SATCHEL for the custom leather handbags that complimented our looks on the runway. THANK YOU to Summer Teal Simpson and Anita Akella for rolling up their sleeves to help us prepare the show backstage Friday night. And to Will Kubley for his help putting together tracks for the show.

Personal thanks go out from Ashley to her parents, her boyfriend, Nick, and to all her family, friends, customers, and followers for their tireless patience and support of her and Haberdashery over the past few months as she prepared for last week.

Last, but not least, endless thanks go to Charleston Fashion Week - the models, staff, judges, volunteers, supporters, patrons, and sponsors - for giving this designer a chance to prove what she's made of.

Check out our interview on local Blog "Charleston Low Country Boil".
