Charleston Fashion Week - Here We Come!

Thaaaat's right! We are proud to announce that Haberdashery's new Eco-Fashion line, Haberdashery Eco, will be showing at the 2012 Charleston Fashion Week (CFW) in March. We are honored to be part of such a distinguished event with a talented pool of designers and a panel of esteemed judges.

It all began a few months ago when owner/designer Ashley Newsome submitted some sketches and a statement about her collection. She received word of her acceptance in December. For the occasion, we plan to pull out all the stops. Her collection is, in one sentence, "Oscar Wilde meets the Maharaja at the World's Fair."
The Haberdashery Eco Collection is inspired by 1890's fashion - leg of mutton sleeves, bustled overcoats, riding breeches, epaulets, collars, maxi skirts, and capes. The menswear builds from elegant uniforms and features heavy use of collaring.
True to Haberdashery's eco-spirit, some garments will be constructed of reclaimed vintage furs. Other materials include faux fur, from recycled material, and organic wool, silk and cotton over-dyed and treated using natural dyes and mordant.
"We encourage those who make and purchase goods to keep ethical considerations and efficient end-uses in mind," says Newsome on the CFW website. "The design concept for this collection marries classic silhouettes with chic boho styling to form a collection that articulates the many ways that fashion is a sustainably juxtaposed mash-up."

To date, Newsome has illustrated all of her designs for the big show. This week has been busy, with a trip to Charleston earlier in the week to choose her models. This weekend, she travels to New York City to purchase the fabric for her line.

Stay tuned to this blog for continual coverage of Newsome's preparations for Charleston Fashion Week!
