What will 2011 hold for ECO-FASHION?

As the new year gets under way, I would like to ponder the ideas of eco-fashion and the ways that each one of us will incorporate environmental and social reform into our daily practices and our wardrobes. I predict many new eco-fashion companies and independent designers popping up in 2011, giving us all many more opportunities to participate in eco-fashion. I think that the Do-It-Yourself movement will grow and grow this year as we (Americans) are recovering from a recession, feeling more jaded by the fashion industry and feeling more nostalgic and crafty. I hope to see more artisan produced clothing coming about, and I hope to push my own co-op project with the Najil Tucha artisan group of Punta Laguna, Mexico. So, whats your plan?

I challenge you to take the ECO-resolution:

A) Look at the label and buy products that utilize sustainable practices or materials! Supporting eco-friendly designers and paying that extra 15% will help you and the earth in the long run.

B) Use vintage materials to make your own clothing, or mend and repair instead of taking things that you still love to goodwill!! Longevity and re-use is the most sustainable practice and you will feel so accomplished after doing it!!!.

C) Buy something hand-made from a local crafter or artisan. All of the little steps you take to help improve the lives of others will also make a huge difference.
